What is All-on-4 Implants?
Developed by Nobel Biocare, All-on-4 is the ideal solution for people who want to replace a full arch of teeth. It is often recommended to patients seeking an alternative to removable dentures. As the name suggests, only four implant posts are necessary to support an entire set of fixed teeth. For comparison’s sake, normally six to 10 implants are necessary for a fixed implant bridge. Placing fewer implants is more cost efficient and does not require bone grafting.
How All-on-4 Implants Works
All-on-4 uses “tilted implants.” The four implant posts are strategically placed at a 45-degree angle for two reasons: first, to increase their strength and stability; and second, to avoid damaging the sinus cavity in the upper jaw or the nerve canal in the lower jaw. Tilting the implants enables them to anchor to better quality jawbone, improving their support. Also, All-on-4 uses longer dental implants, increasing the contact between the implant and bone and reducing the need for bone grafting (in which the jawbone is supplemented to provide a better base for the implants).
Drs. Moldovan and Malkin use NobelGuide software to plan the placement of the implant posts. After the implant posts have been placed, a customized fixed bridge supporting prosthetic teeth is affixed to the posts. Finally, Drs. Moldovan and Malkin make any necessary adjustments for proper fit. You can also read about All-on-4 dental implant procedure on Dr. Malkion’s website.
